It's a Republic T-Shirt

As the story goes, when Ben Franklin was leaving the Constitutional Convention in 1787, he was approached by a woman who asked him what form of government he and the other delegates to the convention had created. His response was, "A republic, madam, if you can keep it."
His words not only correct those who would mistakenly call the United States a democracy, but they press home the responsibility of every citizen to safeguard this constitutional republic from being taken over by tyrants who would pervert it to their own benefit.
Behind the text of this design is a distressed and tattered version of the original "Betsy Ross" flag of the thirteen colonies, representing just how tattered the original ideal of our republic has become. We have not done the best job of heeding Franklin's admonition to "keep it."
